Shona Main is a modern Renaissance woman. With a background in journalism, law, politics and social policy Shona spend years as a travel writer and columnist before picking up a film camera in 2011. He first documentary (Clavel), is an intimate portrait of a crofter on the Scottish island of Shetland. While in Shetland she began researching the pioneering documentary filmmaker Jenny Gilbertson who had filmed crofters on the island in the 1930’s and the Inuit of Arctic Canada in the 1970’s. Recently Shona has embarked on a practice-led PhD which explores the ethics of Gilbertson’s filmmaking and her own. In 2018 she heads to the Arctic as part of the research and filming for this project.
