We are entering an exciting new creative age in our history. According to Google in the next five years another three billion people are expected to come online for the very first time. These three billion people will be creating, learning, uploading, buying and selling online for the very first time.
Another recent study published at the World Economic Summit in Davos showed what the top ten most important job skills will be by the year 2020. It identified creativity as being in the top three skills, more important that negotiation skills or emotional intelligence. In this episode of The Creative Life TV Show I talk about how to take advantage of this new creative age.

In this episode of The Creative Life Podcast, bass player, composer, author, producer, music educator and recipient of 5 Grammy awards, Victor Wooten tells us how he learned playing bass from his brothers and played music with them at a very young age. He shares with us his journey on how he also learned to play music through communicating with his instrument. Victor also talks about how he deals with people who have learned music in a different way and understanding their approach.
" When it comes to learning a language, we understand that we learn to talk first, learn the rules later. "
" As a musician, my goal is to make you feel good when I play. "
" Anybody can be famous. You don't have to be successful to become famous. Being famous is not enough. Making it is just easy. It just depends on what you call making it, but knowing who you are and being a value to the world that's a lifetime journey. "
" Learn it all. Get yourself out there, but have a good reason for getting yourself out there so that the world benefits."

Fingerstyle jazz guitarist Martin Taylor shares with us his approach to being a creative musician and teaching music online. In this episode of The Creative Life Podcast, he talks about the importance of being selective in terms of which ideas he pursues and what creative success means to him.
"You might make a cup of tea in it, you use the wrong tea bags and it doesn't taste too good. That's a little failure, so you throw it down the sink. Then you make yourself an amazing espresso and that's a success. It's just a matter of always moving on."
"You cannot be stuck with something. If it doesn't work, move on."

In this episode of The Creative Life TV Show, I talk about how we often get fixated with the labels we give ourselves as creatives. "I am a writer, musician, artist, entrepreneur, etc". Srinavas Rao wrote an intriguing article about how creative cross-training can open up new possibilities. The idea is that you immerse yourself in another art form outside of your primary domain.
By experimenting with a different art form we get a different view of the world and engage mental muscles that may never have been engaged before. The result can often be a cross-fertilization of ideas and new creative inspiration.

In this episode of The Creative Life Podcast, I talk with Sandy Gennaro, a Nashville based drummer, speaker, teacher and author who over the last 50 years has worked with some of the biggest names in pop and rock. These include Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett, Bo Diddly, Johnny Winter, Michael Bolton, Robin Gibb and The Monkees. Since 2007 Gennaro has been a frequent counsellor at David Fishof’s Rock and Roll Fantasy Camps but you would be wrong if you thought he came late to teaching. For 27 years he taught drums at The Collective in New York City before moving to Nashville where he still maintains a private teaching practice. As a public speaker he has given motivational talks for FedEx, Belmont University, Guitar Center and Sam Ash.

In this episode of The Creative Life Podcast, I talk with singer-songwriter-blogger, Amanda Palmer about how she juggles her music, activism, writing and new baby. Amanda tells us about protecting her son from social norms and nurturing his creative curiosity. She also shares with us the difference between her creative process as a songwriter and live music performer compared with that of her creative process when writing a book.
“The first stop on turning people onto your art is show people your art.” – Amanda Palmer
And on technology and mindfulness Amanda Palmer says:
“The most important thing about doing anything with a second screen, whether it’s a creative project, or watching a piece of media, watching a film, being with a friend and having your screen, is you have to be able to do it mindfully. You have to be able to know that you are in control and able to shut the screen off and be with yourself and by yourself when needed.”
